6 Week Functional
Fundamentals.

- With Mara

This class is for people who know something feels “off” in their body but don’t know where to start.

Functional Fundamentals rebuilds the basics most training skips — posture, balance, and how your body actually moves day to day.

Over six weeks, you’ll develop strength that carries into walking, training, and life — not just the gym.

What to Expect
  • Each session centres on posture, balance, and coordinated movement — the basics that underpin how you walk, train, and load your body day to day.

  • This isn’t a follow-along class. You’ll be coached, corrected, and supported so the work actually lands in your body.

  • Movements build week to week. As your body adapts, the exercises evolve — nothing rushed, nothing arbitrary.

  • Expect improvements in how you stand, walk, and move outside the studio — not just how you feel during the session.

  • Most people notice better body awareness, improved coordination, and a sense of things “clicking” as the weeks go on.

Your 6 Week Plan
  • We start by calming the system and setting a baseline. You’ll learn how to breathe properly, release unnecessary tension, and find a more balanced standing position.

  • With a more stable base, we introduce controlled spinal rotation. This helps restore natural movement through the torso and improves how the upper and lower body communicate.

  • This week focuses on how you load your body. You’ll learn to distribute weight more evenly through your feet and legs while maintaining rotational control.

  • We begin integrating the core and glutes in a way that supports posture and movement, rather than isolating muscles or forcing activation.

  • All previous elements are brought together into more dynamic, full-body movements that reflect how you move in daily life and training.

  • The final week challenges coordination, control, and confidence. Movements become more fluid and demanding while maintaining the fundamentals built over the previous weeks.

  • I cannot recommend Burleigh Biomechanics enough! My daughter has been training there for about five months, and we’ve seen incredible progress in so many areas. Her strength, balance and gait have all improved significantly, and she’s become much more confident in herself.

  • In a matter of weeks I’ve felt so much more strength and stability in my core, especially since having my two boys. My whole body strength and tone has changed already and it is fixing years of postural bad habits.

Your Questions, Answered

  • No. This class is designed for people who want to improve how they move, regardless of fitness level or past injuries. Everything is scaled and coached so you can work safely within your current capacity.

  • It sits in between. You’ll build strength and coordination, but the priority is quality of movement rather than fatigue or intensity.

  • Most classes focus on exercises; this focuses on how your body is organising itself while you move. That difference is often why this work feels more relevant and sustainable.

  • People commonly report better posture, improved body awareness, and more confidence in daily movement and training. Many also feel their body is more balanced and less reactive.
